Hello! My name is Abby.
Auto-Biography: I am finishing up my time here at Paducah School of Art, but officially graduating in the summer of 2024 with an Asociates in Fine Arts degree. I’ve always liked art growing up but faded away from it for a little bit. I found my love for it again in my first year of high school. When taking classes in high school I realized I didn’t want any other job besides making art, so I decided to come here to get my associates. After graduating I plan on taking a year break from school to focus on getting some life experience. I have also been thinking after my year break about going into art therapy or beginning to sell my own stuff.
Inspirations/Subjects: I find a lot of inspiration from a lot of things, but mostly it's from the music I listen to and the things I imagine while listening. The genres I listen to right now are usually punk rock, R&B/soul, funk, pop, and K-pop. The artists that I usually listen to right now that I get inspiration from are Hozier and Prince. Another inspiration would have to be Neil Gaiman’s work in The Sandman comics from DC and from his live action Netflix adaptation of the same name.
I mostly like drawing/painting a little bit of everything, but my favorites would have to be portraits and landscapes. I used to hate portraits, but after a bit of practice they’re now a part of my favorite things to do.
Method: My preferred medium is acrylic and charcoal, though I want to test out oil pastels. Usually, I get my ideas at the worst of times, so when that happens, I usually type them in my notes app to remind me later. When I get the time, I usually sit down and look on Pinterest to get a good idea of what I’m thinking, but also to get some references to help me out. Then, whether I’m using a canvas or mixed media paper, I use a grid system to help place everything on the surface. Once that's done, I begin to draw or paint to my heart’s content.
